Why stop at Germany when you’re already in Europe?

With Germany centrally located to so many fabulous European destinations, we wanted to help travelers move beyond its borders more easily. Introducing the German Rail Pass Extension. Quite simply, it lets you use your German Rail Pass to travel to Brussels, Prague, and popular destinations in Italy and Austria without buying additional country passes or tickets. Use it to travel to and from Brussels on ICE International Trains, Prague on DB Expressbus, Kufstein and Innsbruck in Austria, and Bolzano, Verona, Bologna and Venice in Italy on DB-OBB Eurocity trains. Just make sure you buy enough travel days on your German Rail Pass to cover your newly expanded itinerary and enjoy.

Here’s what’s included:

    • Provides travel beyond the German borders on certain trains and buses to the following destinations:
      • Brussels
      • Prague
      • Kufstein and Innsbruck
      • Kracow, Katowice and Wroclaw
      • Bolzano, Trento, Verona, Bologna and Venice

 

Conditions:

    • German Rail Pass Extension is only valid in conjunction with a German Rail Pass.
    • German Rail Pass Extension does not alter the number of travel days on the German Rail Pass.
    • German Rail Pass Extension may be activated on the first train if travel does not begin in Germany.
    • Travel is only valid on specific trains and buses operated by DB.
    • Travel to/from Brussels is only valid on the ICE train.
    • Travel to/from Prague is only valid on the second class DB Expressbus from Munich or Nuremburg. Reservations are required and an additional cost.
    • Travel to/from Berlin is only valid on the DB IC bus from Krakow, Katowice and Wroclaw.
    • Travel to/from Kufstein, Innsbruck, Bolzano, Verona, Bologna and Venice are only valid on the DB-OBB Eurocity trains.
    • German Rail Pass Extension is not valid on the Thalys trains.
    • Child rates are valid for children ages 6 -11.
    • Prices are subject to change.
Can I buy a German Rail Pass Extension to travel those additional countries if I don’t have a German Rail Pass?

No. The German Rail Pass Extension is only available to those with a German Rail Pass.

Does the German Rail Pass Extension change the number of travel days I have?
No. It extends your geographic coverage, but does not alter the number of travel days you have available to you. All travel must still be within the number of travel days you purchase on your German Rail Pass.
Can I get a refund on my German Rail Pass Extension if I have already started traveling on my German Rail Pass?
For a refund on the German Rail Pass Extension, it must be stamped “not used” by a German Rail Official prior to the activation of the corresponding German Rail Pass. If you wish to get a refund on both the German Rail Pass and the German Rail Pass Extension, they must be presented together and must both be unused and not activated.
Do I have to travel on these specific train and bus operators?

Yes. The German Rail Pass Extension is only valid on the trains and/or bus operators noted. Please make sure to check the schedules for each operator prior to boarding.
