Spires to inspire: Avila and Segovia
Among the many splendors of Spain is this excursion to UNESCO World Heritage sites Avila and Segovia. With this full day tour, you’ll travel by bus and enjoy a guided walking tour in each city. Avila is one of the most ancient and complete fortified cities in Spain. It’s 7,500-foot long wall and 90 towers surround the old city, home to Romanesque style churches, gothic palaces and a fortified cathedral. Segovia is home to a true engineering marvel, a 10-mile long Roman aqueduct made of 25,000 granite blocks and no mortar. Its cathedral, known as “the Lady of the Cathedrals” is stunningly beautiful and the last of the gothic cathedrals built in Spain. You can choose between free time or a local lunch with your tour, but either way you’ll return to the 21st century in time for dinner.
