Group Rail Consultant

Arranges group rail transportation, by performing the following duties personally:


  • Handles incoming telephone, e-mail and fax inquiries providing customers with necessary information and professional service.
  • Provides clients with written quotations, including all pricing, schedules along with detailed terms and conditions.
  • Qualifies the group by contacting the agent/client for number of passengers, itinerary, class, timetables, budget or competitive information.
  • Prepares detailed proposals for the clients outlining all inclusions, pricing, itinerary details, schedules and terms and conditions
  • Consistently follows up with clients to secure new business and maintain current accounts.
  • Consults published and computer sources, such as Euronet, Mosaique, START, Renfe website and StarGate to analyze and evaluate commercial rates, lowest logical rail fares, times and routings.
  • Prepares tentative plans and suitable alternatives for approval by traveler and management.
  • Uses computerized reservation and ticketing systems, as mentioned above, to book transportation, and issue rail tickets and/or passes.
  • Keeps track of booking statuses at all times with all files by using the software system TRACS.
  • Ensures all reservations are confirmed prior to travel.
  • Tracks and audits travel activities, expenses, and payments.
  • Responsible for all accounting, including collecting funds from the client, paying suppliers and processing refunds.
  • Achieves monthly sales targets.



Associates Degree; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Strong sales background in travel or customer service experience.

Core Competencies

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office software.

Ability to speak/read/write in Spanish.
