Group Rail Consultant

We are currently seeking a Group Rail Consultant to join our White Plains, New York location. This professional will arrange group rail transportation, and respond to incoming phone, email, and fax inquiries to provide customers with information and service. Reporting to our Manger of Groups, this individual will provide clients with written quotations, including pricing, schedules, and detailed terms/conditions.


  • Qualifying the group by contacting the agent/client to learn the number of passengers, itinerary, class, class, timetables, budget and/or competitive information.
  • Preparing detailed proposals for clients that outline all inclusions, pricing, itinerary details, schedules, and terms and conditions.
  • Consistently following up with clients to secure new business and maintain current accounts.
  • Consulting with published and computer sources to analyze/evaluate commercial rates, lowest fares, times, and routings.
  • Preparing tentative plans and alternatives for approval by the traveler and management.
  • Using computerized reservation and ticketing systems to book transportation and issue rail tickets and passes.
  • Tracking booking status using the TRACS software system.
  • Ensuring confirmation of reservations prior to travel.
  • Tracking/auditing travel activities, expenses, and payments.
  • Performing accounting functions, including collection of funds from clients, paying suppliers, and processing refunds.
  • Achieving monthly sales objectives.


  • Associate’s degree or one or more years of related experience and/or training.
  • A strong sales background in travel or customer service experience.
  • Experience in Telephone Sales a plus.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to interpret documents including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • The communication and presentation skills essential to speaking effectively before groups of customers and/or employees.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish.
