Railteam High Speed Europe

We are proud to be associated with Railteam, an alliance of seven leading European rail carriers committed to advancing high-speed train travel and making border-crossing by train a simple, seamless and comfortable experience in Europe.

Formed in 2007 as cooperation between Deutsche Bahn, SNCF, ÖBB, Eurostar, SBB, SNCB and NS, Railteam brings together one of the most technologically advanced fleet of trains, including the Eurostar train linking Paris, Brussels and London, the record-breaking TGV, and the state of the art ICE trains. Railteam members’ 6000km high-speed rail network is the most extensive in the world, and includes a cluster of international train stations operating as hubs through which over 25 million people traveled in 2010.

Railteam's main goal is facilitating journeys involving two or more of these otherwise independent operators. Rail Europe supports Railteam's mission by promoting European high-speed rail travel in North America as a fast, effective, environmentally friendly and comfortable way of traveling, and by operating a first-of-its-kind international rail booking system, which allows travelers to seamlessly plan and book a multi-country European rail itinerary.

Traveling by high-speed train on the Railteam network offers you several guarantees:

High Speed Travel and Quality of Service

All Railteam member trains reach a minimum speed of 140 mph, so you're guaranteed to be on the fast track to your destination. In fact, traveling on Railteam members’ trains is usually faster and more convenient than flying, especially for distances up to 600 miles, thanks to centrally located stations. Moreover, Railteam members are committed to the highest quality standards for their travelers, which includes air conditioned cars, wide and comfortable seating, a quiet environment, modern interior design, fold-away tables, electrical sockets, hot and cold drinks, snacks and light meals available on-board, and the dedication of an English-speaking staff on board and at the station.

Modern Facilities and Services

The train hubs operated by Railteam members are among the largest stations in Europe. Fully equipped with many amenities and services, stations are designed for a hassle-free transit experience for travelers. Finding your train is simple, thanks to multi-lingual signage and announcements and easy-to-read departure boards. Train managers are available to help you board the train, find your seat or tell you how to reach your connecting train.

Seamless Multi-Country Travel

With frequent departures between popular cities, you can count on Railteam members’ international high speed trains to quickly whisk you onto the next stop of your European journey. In addition, Railteam members are coordinating their schedules to make it easy for you to connect from one Railteam member operated train to the next. What's more, if you miss your train because of disrupted service on the preceding leg of your journey, you can take the next train without the need to modify your ticket or make a new reservation. (This service is now available at Lille Europe, Brussels Midi, Frankfurt, Cologne and Stuttgart, and is being extended to many other Railteam connections).

A Safe, Reliable and Environmentally Friendly Way to Travel

In addition to being extremely safe, Railteam members’ trains are also almost always on time, with a track record of getting travelers to their destination within 15 minutes of schedule in 95% of cases, compared to 85% for airline services.

Railteam members' trains are powered by electricity, so there are no carbon emissions. In fact, many European countries have taken initiatives to curb carbon dioxide emissions when producing electrical energy, such as France where 75% of the electricity comes from nuclear energy or Switzerland where hydroelectric power is used as the main source of energy on railways.

Rail Europe is proud to provide high speed rail access to millions of North American travelers each year. With Railteam members’ state of the art fleets, travelers experience trains in true European style. Rail Europe is also the first and only website to offer a one-stop booking engine for all European high-speed trains. Start planning your European rail journey now, be it a simple point-to-point trip or a complex, multi-city itinerary.
